In a positive development for North Wales’ and Cheshire’s engineering sector, Waterco, a leading engineering and environmental consultancy, has acquired Datrys, a respected Caernarfon-based
engineering consultancy.
Merger and acquisition advisor Angela Downey and the wider team at One to One Corporate Finance UK played a pivotal role in facilitating the transaction, ensuring a smooth sales process
and providing critical support throughout the entire due diligence phase to completion.
The acquisition, completed just before the Government’s Budget Announcement, underscores the long-standing professional relationship between the two companies. This strategic partnership
marks a significant step forward for both companies and brings enhanced services and expertise to clients across North Wales and beyond.
Peter Jones, founder of Waterco, and Paul Williams, founder of Datrys, have known each other for many years, with both companies collaborating on numerous projects, sharing a mutual respect for each other’s work. This collaboration reflects their shared commitment to quality and service in the industry.
With Paul Williams set to retire, the acquisition ensures that Datrys’ clients will continue to receive top-tier services while also benefitting from Waterco’s wider portfolio, which includes additional
environmental and engineering expertise.
Paul commented that this was the “perfect next step” for the business he has passionately led for years, ensuring that Datrys’ reputation and legacy will continue to thrive under Waterco’s guidance. He continues, “I am delighted we have successfully completed the transfer of Datrys to Waterco to the benefit of our staff and clients. One to One Corporate Finance (we know as Shareholder Strategies Ltd) were superb as our advisors throughout the process. They provided excellent advice on both technical and procedural matters to ensure the sale came to fruition.”
Waterco Founder Peter Jones, alongside fellow directors Pedr Jones and Rachel Davies, emphasised the natural synergy between the two firms, highlighting how the merger combines
their collective expertise to deliver even greater outcomes for their clients.
Pedr Jones, Commercial Director, commented, “This partnership brings together two respected names in the region, offering our clients a broader range of services and expertise, as well as
greater resilience. We are thrilled to welcome Datrys into the Waterco family, and look forward to building on the strong foundations both companies have laid. As an employee-owned company, we all have a vested interest in the success of the business to drive us forward. That sense of ownership, the ability to shape the future of the business will help us continue to attract new talent, develop new markets and help us grow Waterco further. “
The acquisition comes at a time of significant opportunity in North Wales, with growing demand for engineering and environmental consultancy services driven by infrastructure, housing, and
sustainability projects across the region. By uniting, the companies are well-positioned to support key developments in areas such as Anglesey, Caernarfon, and Wrexham, creating a stronger,
more resilient team to serve their clients and communities.
Angela Downey, Corporate Finance Manager at One to One Corporate Finance UK expressed her gratitude for the seamless collaboration: “It’s been a genuine pleasure working with Paul and Peter’s teams. This partnership is a perfect match, bringing together two passionate and skilled teams who share the same values and vision. We’re grateful to the whole team involved – including Robin Gill at Excello Law, partners at Lanyon Bowdler, BSN Associates, and Williams Denton – for going above and beyond to get the deal completed on time and ensuring a seamless transition. We are excited for what’s to come and the opportunities this partnership will create for our clients.”
Waterco will work closely with Datrys’ existing team to ensure a smooth transition, retaining the expertise and local knowledge that have made Datrys a trusted name in the region. Both firms are
committed to maintaining the high standards their clients have come to expect while delivering innovative solutions to meet the region’s evolving needs.
